Group visit
Carbfix Student Tours
A unique educational visit that invites students to explore Iceland's groundbreaking carbon storage project - up close and in the field.

About the Tour
Our Carbfix Student Tours offer a rare chance for students to experience an in-depth introduction to how CO₂ can be permanently stored through natural mineralization. Carbfix offers a pioneering solution that transforms captured carbon dioxide into stone in less than two years a method that has set a global benchmark for safe and permanent carbon storage.
This 1–1.5 hour guided experience combines the Geothermal Exhibition with a visit to a Carbfix injection site (weather and site conditions permitting), providing firsthand insight into how climate innovation is implemented at scale.
The tour is led by an experienced Science Communicator and includes:
A guided visit to a Carbfix injection well and the surrounding injection area, including ON Power's Geothermal Park
A guided visit to a Carbfix injection well and the surrounding injection area
An overview of the geothermal energy production and distribution at ON Power's Hellisheiði Geothermal Plant and its connection to carbon capture
A detailed explanation of the Carbfix carbon mineralization process — from capture to permanent storage in basalt rock
Visits can be customized to match specific educational goals, and teachers are encouraged to share course topics in advance.
After the tour, students are invited to explore the exhibition independently.
